Vortrag und Künstlergespräch: Justin Lieberman (New York)
Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, Campus Weißenhof: Bildhauerbau, Steinsaal
Justin Lieberman, born 1977, is an artist, teacher, curator, and writer living in Munich. Anarchic and aggregate, Lieberman’s anti-aesthetics defy systems of categorization and consumption and apparent order, though the work teems with tautology all its own.
Lieberman received a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and an MFA from Yale University, New Haven. Since that time, he has executed numerous solo shows internationally, and has held faculty positions at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Queens College, New York, and Brandeis University, Waltham. His work has been reviewed in publications including Artforum, BOMB Magazine, Art in America, The Poetry Project Newsletter, Triple Canopy, Frieze Magazine, Art Review, The New York Times, Le Monde, and Libération. Lieberman is a founding member of the Student Art Collective, and author of „The Corrector’s Custom Pre-Fab House“, a structuralist book of meditations on on quotidian objects. His work is also the subject of a monograph published by JRP Ringier. Current exhibitions include an overview of his video works at the Spectacle Theater in Brooklyn, a mid-career survey of his work at Le Confort Moderne in Poitiers (France) and a new installation at Kunstraum in Munich.
